Digital Radiograph

Digital Radiograph

Dental radiographs, commonly known as “dental x-rays,” provide detailed images of teeth and jaws. Furthermore, dental x-rays are an essential diagnostic tool to help detect and treat dental lesions and diagnose and treat other oral pathologies. They can provide a closer look at cavities, growth of the jaws, cysts or tumors, infections, and evaluate for missing or extra teeth.

Our Approach to Pediatric Dental Radiographs

Floss Boss Pediatric Dentistry is committed to offering the most conservative kids’ dental practices. One way we can honor this commitment is to adhere to the concept of “imaging gently.” We practice this by using leading-edge digital radiographs that use the lowest radiation as reasonably achievable. We are dedicated to using the most accurate digital imaging equipment, necessitating the lowest ionizing radiation exposure, and provide pediatric dental digital radiograph services.

Additionally, we typically do not suggest x-rays at every appointment and only when recommended by Dr. Kruti Sanghavi, a pediatric dentist. Hillsborough, Flemington, and surrounding area residents can rest assured that we use the safest practices possible in preventive and general dentistry for kids.

How often does my child need dental radiographs?

When your child comes for a regular check-up, our pediatric dentist will do an age, behavior, caries risk, and growth assessment to necessitate the need for digital radiographs. Every child has different dental requirements, so radiographs may be required for a thorough assessment. Typically, we recommend a digital x-ray every 6 to 12 months based on the child’s age and cooperation.

Multiple factors are involved when dentists take radiographs (please check aapd.org for updated guidelines). Generally, digital radiographs are an essential part of your child’s preventive and diagnostic dental routine. Typical radiation dosages in bitewing or panoramic radiographs can be looked up on the ADA guidelines, but digital radiographs notably have a significantly reduced radiation rate.

What happens during dental digital radiographs?

Dental radiographs are a safe and painless procedure that will help your child get the most accurate diagnosis. If you are particularly concerned about radiation, we can provide lead aprons and thyroid collars for all our little patients and their parents!

Digital radiography (DR) is an advanced form of x-ray inspection. Our technology produces digital radiographic images instantly on our computer using specialized software and radiograph-sensitive plates to capture data during object examination. Digital images are directly transferred to our computer without an intermediate cassette or film.

We want you to get the most out of your pediatric dental visits.

Even though visual inspection can detect surface-level decay and lesions, digital radiographs are sometimes the only method to detect cavities that seem invisible or are challenging to detect (like cavities between the teeth or beneath the surface of the gums). Radiographs allow for more information once we do detect issues and can tell our Flemington, NJ, pediatric dentist how much the cavity has spread within the tooth. Access to this knowledge helps the Floss Boss team determine the most appropriate treatment to remedy or eliminate any issues at hand.
