Digital Radiographs

Digital Radiographs

Radiographs or commonly known as ‘dental xrays’ are recommended every 6 months to one a year based on the child’s age and cooperation. There are multiple different factors involved in when dentists take radiographs (please check aapd.org for updated guidelines). In general, radiographs help in providing a detailed picture of cavities, growth of the jaws, and evaluate for missing or extra teeth. When your child comes for a regular check-up, our pediatric dentist will do an age, behavior, caries risk and growth assessment to necessitate the need for digital radiographs.

Digital radiographs are an important part of your child’s preventive and diagnostic dental routine. Typical dosages of radiation in bitewing or panoramic radiographs can be looked up on the ADA guidelines. Every child has different dental requirements, and that is why different radiographs may be required for a thorough assessment. It is a safe and painless procedure that will help your child get the most accurate diagnosis. We will ensure lead aprons and thyroid collars are available to all our little patients and their parents!
